Primates on Exhibit

Primates on Exhibit

Will humanity become civilized in this century?

Pictured below are the Lacandon Mayas exhibited in 1938 at the Guatemalan Fair. All but one of these Lacandon Mayas died from disease they caught from visitors to the exhibit.  The Lacandones were captured and taken to the fair to be exhibited against their will.  When not on display, the Lacandones were kept in a crude bamboo cage and their hands and feet were chained.  Pictured on the right:  A chimpanzee at the Johore Zoo in 2001.
